FAQ

Answers: Frequently Asked Questions For Men

  1. What are MINODEX®products?

MINODEX® products are the first FDA-approved topical treatment that is clinically proven to help regrow hair. MINODEX® products also help to reverse the progression of hereditary hair loss.

  1. How do MINODEX®products work?

In hereditary hair loss, a combination of heredity, hormones, and age causes a progressive shrinking, or miniaturization, of certain scalp follicles. This causes a shortening of the hair’s growing cycle. Over time, as the active hair growth phase becomes shorter, the resting phase becomes longer. Eventually, there may be no growth at all. The exact mechanism of action for MINODEX® products is uncertain. However, researchers believe that MINODEX® products work in part by partially enlarging the hair follicles and reversing the miniaturization process. By enlarging miniaturized follicles, the growth phase of the hair cycle is prolonged, allowing the hair to become longer and thicker looking. And with more follicles in the growth phase at the same time, it is possible to see improved coverage of the scalp.

  1. What’s the difference between MINODEX®Foam and MINODEX®Solution?

Men’s MINODEX® Foam and Men’s MINODEX® Extra Strength Topical Solution both contain 5% minoxidil—the only FDA-approved active ingredient that is clinically proven to help regrow hair. However, Men’s MINODEX® Foam is the first FDA-approved hair regrowth foam. Because it’s a foam, not a solution, it is applied differently. The foam is gently massaged into the scalp in contrast to MINODEX® Extra Strength Topical Solution—where an applicator (dropper) is used to apply the solution onto the hair loss area.

4. What the most common side effects of MINODEX®products?

Some people may experience a dry, itchy scalp and irritation (more common with solution than foam). If you develop unwanted facial hair while using Men’s MINODEX® products, it will usually disappear when use of the product is discontinued

  1. Are there any medications that may interact when I’m using MINODEX®products?

To our knowledge, there are currently no known drug interactions associated with medications taken by mouth and the use of MINODEX® products. You should not use MINODEX® products if you are using other topical medicines on the scalp. Did you know that some medications can cause hair loss?

  1. What is the shelf life of Men’s MINODEX®products?

The shelf life of MINODEX® Solution is 3 years. The shelf life of MINODEX® Foam is 2 years.

  1. How soon can I expect results?

It may take at least 4 months for results to be seen. Your results and success may depend on the proper application and dosage: remember to apply MINODEX® product twice a day, every day, directly to the scalp. If you do not see any results after 4 months, speak with your doctor.

  1. How do I open my MINODEX®Foam container?

To properly open your container of MINODEX® Foam, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Use the thumb and forefinger of one hand to hold the white plastic ring securely (you’ll find the white plastic ring around the neck of the container, just below the translucent cap).
  • Step 2: While holding the ring in place, use your other hand to twist the translucent cap until the arrow on the white plastic ring lines up with the arrow on the translucent cap.
  • Step 3: Tilt cap back and pull off cap.

To properly close the container:

  • Step 1: Place cap on container
  • Step 2: Snap into place
  • Step 3: Be sure arrows do NOT line up, so cap remains child resistant.
  1. Is there a way to know that MINODEX®products are working?

There are a few signs that let you know MINODEX® products are at work on your hair follicles. For example, during the first few weeks of use, there may be a temporary increase in hair shedding. This is a good sign and means that the new growth cycle is beginning, and the older hairs you may have lost are making way for the new healthy ones. Eventually, new growth will appear. This is encouraging and means that MINODEX® products are actually stimulating regrowth—and reversing the progression of hair loss. Remember, not everyone responds to MINODEX® products and individual results will vary. If hair loss continues after 2 weeks on MINODEX® product, stop using and talk to your doctor.

  1. I just started using MINODEX®products and I’ve noticed that my hair loss has increased. Is this typical?

MINODEX® products stimulate hair follicles to shift from the resting phase to the growth phase. Thus, it is not uncommon to see a temporary increase in shedding during the first 2 weeks using MINODEX® products. This occurs in some people as the new hair pushes out the older hairs, when the hair follicle shifts into the growth phase. It is very much like losing baby teeth to make room for adult teeth. This increase in shedding is only temporary and should subside within a couple of weeks with continued treatment. Please note, however, if increased shedding continues for longer than 2 weeks, you should consult your doctor to rule out other possible medical problems.
